633. Tangerine
Like the other types of oranges I’ve eaten for the blog before, tangerines are nice and sweet and tasty and tangy, but frankly I can’t really tell the difference between them and other small, orange-type fruits. They always make a good snack though.

491. Jaffa Oranges
Oranges are always a nice fruit, and Jaffa oranges are definitely a good variety, they are always nicely sweet. In my mind no orange can ever compete with a blood orange though, there is just no competition. Oh yeah, and I just couldn’t resist getting one of my pink knives in the picture again. I love those knives.

368. Duck a l’Orange
I wanted to make this with a whole duck, but then I went to the supermarket and saw how expensive the whole ducks were, and so legs it was. I didn’t really follow a recipe per se, though I did look up a few just to get a general feel for what to put in it (as is my usual way). I figured that roasting the duck legs on top of orange and onion slices would both give the duck extra flavour and provide some nice soft roasted goodness as a base for the sauce. The duck turned out really nice; the skin was crisp and the meat was not dry at all, but we weren’t so sure on the sauce… I certainly was not convinced.

246. Satsuma
Of all the small oranges, satsumas are probably my least favourite, I usually find that they’re too sweet for my liking, and don’t have as much flavour as mandarins, tangerines or clementines. They are the ones I remember having a lot in childhood though, as they are by far the easiest to peel which is always a good thing for lunchboxes or whatever. Marks and Spencers did sell a satsuma juice this past christmas which I had quite a few bottles of as the juice condensed the flavour a lot more and it was much nicer than regular oj.

177. Blood Orange
I like oranges as a fruit anyway, they are tangy and juicy and refreshing. But blood oranges are something else. They are just delicious and every time I eat one I don’t understand why I don’t eat them more often. I guess they’re just a tiny bit sweeter than a regular orange, but in a way that makes the flavour deeper and more interesting. Plus they’re that gorgeous burgundy colour.
