543. Pate de Campagne
Do you remember how I went on a day trip to Belgium probably like, 6 months ago? Yeah? Well we’re still posting foods from then. Don’t judge me, I’ve been busy. Plus, I just tend to get over-excited about things I’ve eaten more recently and post them first. I promise that at some point in my life I shall actually get around to posting everything in a timely fashion. Some time.
Anyway, this was Pie’s starter at the restaurant we went to for lunch. I’m not really a pate girl. I find the livery taste too much for me, and chunky pates just have a weird lumpy texture that I can’t quite get over. I would pick the cheese fritters I had for my starter over this every time (I mean, who wouldn’t, it’s FRIED CHEESE, and I of course have the most sophisticated of palates).
The pate came with toast, salad and cornichons. Cornichons fit into my generally hated category of pickles, but they do have some saving graces over most. They are at least really crunchy, and because they’re whole they don’t soak in too much pickled flavour. I still think they’re a waste of tasty tasty cucumbers though.
